STEVE WAGNER
President
Since falling in love with it as a teenager, the sport of tennis has been a big part of my life. I've always been drawn by the physical and mental challenges of tennis. I also enjoy the social aspects of it, and I've made a lot of lifelong friends along the way. Some I met playing in high school, some in adult leagues and tournaments, and most recently in social groups, including the cardio tennis sessions I've run the past number of years at a local community center.
Having grown up in rural Hartford and having been an educator in Hartford since 1994, I look forward to this exciting venture. Through forming HEAT, our goal is to promote this great sport by offering a variety of opportunities and experiences. We welcome people of all ages and ability levels. See you on the court!
LIZZIE KOVACEVICH
President Elect
I have been involved with tennis for quite some time. I started playing when I was in middle school but really got into tennis my freshman year of high school playing on the JV1 team. I played varsity tennis at Hartford for three years and continued on to play four years of college tennis at Concordia University Wisconsin. I am currently involved in tennis as a coach for the girls’ and boys’ tennis teams at Hartford Union High School and I am also a Junior Team Tennis League Coordinator for the United States Tennis Association. I love that I have been able to stay involved in tennis, both playing and coaching, and hope to help others fall in love with the game.
RON SCHLITT
Treasurer
I have been active promoting tennis as a lifetime sport in the Hartford community for almost 50 years. I am a 1969 graduate of Hartford Union High School. I taught Social Studies and Economics for 27 years, 15 of them at Hartford. I was the varsity boys tennis coach at Hartford from 1980-2000 and also coached girls tennis from 1987-2000. From 2000-2010, I served as the Co-Curricular Director at HUHS. After my retirement in 2010, I coached girls tennis for 9 years under Andy Andress. I also helped my son Jeremy coach boys tennis at Arrowhead High School for 9 years. I've also stayed active playing in many adult leagues over the past decades.
ANDREW ANDRESS
Secretary
Tennis has been a significant part of my life. It's been a blessing to meet and work with so many amazing people that I've encountered through tennis. Starting at age 10 into high school, college, and as an adult, I've played competitively. I've had the opportunity to teach and coach well over a thousand children and adults over 30 years of running programs recreationally, as a high school coach, and as a camp instructor. I am excited to be part of HEAT to help grow and inspire more people to share in this great sport. Whether for the exercise, the social aspect, the competition, or just pure enjoyment, tennis has it all!
KATE CARROLL
Director
I have been a tennis mom for nearly twenty years; delighting in watching my daughters through rec department programs, varsity high school teams, collegiate play, and USTA leagues.  For eight years I worked for the Wisconsin Tennis Association, three as a local league coordinator and five as the district league coordinator for adult tennis in Wisconsin. Currently I am the executive director for the Hartford Chamber of Commerce. My biggest tennis accomplishment was stepping on the court as a player four years ago. I have fallen in love with this game from a very different perspective. Both the physical and mental challenges of this lifetime sport keep me coming back to the court. I hope you feel the passion of each of us on the HEAT board. Come learn to play, return to the game you once played, or be a part of our team and share the love of tennis!
